Bollywood Dance at SYC

This evening at 7.30p.m., I attended dance training at SYC. This time, I have tried to get most of the procedures right because I attended "remedial" lessons. Haha..... However, I still can't get some of the steps right. Somehow, my hands can't coordinate with my legs! How? --> Practice loh...

Got a hard copy of manual of the Bollywood Dance typed out by Guoxiong, one of our trainers. It was indeed hard work and wonderful effort by him. Wow.. Impressed. I managed to type out a soft copy of the manual here (Click to download the manual here) and here is the music of the dance (Right click to download the music here).

Visit at the SAF

This afternoon, I had a fun trip at the Nee Soon Camp. I was there to get to know SAF better (part of the NE education).

The carnival set up by the SAF for this teachers' visit included an Army Studio
(where we could see the different kinds of armoured vehicles, artillery platforms and weapons etc.), Defence Lane Demonstration (where we sat in lorries to see how they will defend Singapore - Guns are fired, explosives were heard, Tankers and artillery were being fired too) and also SAR 21 Live Firing.

The most interesting is the SAR 21 Firing. I got to fire the real SAR 21 rifle (information on SAR 21: http://www.mindef.gov.sg/army/infantry_weapons_sar21.htm) and I only got to shoot 1 out of 3 targets. Nevertheless, Vanessa, Alicia and I thought it was quite an experience for us gals.

There was a goodie bag for us before we left Nee Soon camp. This are the items that could be found in the bag:

1) A mug
2) A compass
3) A pouch-like bag
4) 3 pens

Window shop at Medi-ya Supermarket

A wet day in the morning and I overslept. As a result, I was late for my YCF dance training at SYC.

When I was there, they were about to showcase the costumes that we will be wearing on that very day. For the gals, we will be wearing black pants and black t-shirts inside. As for the outside, we will be wearing a colourful blouse with a scarf specially sewn to the blouse. On top of that, yellow scarves will be tied onto our wrists so that when we dance, the scarves will be fly beautifully as we do the movements. Oh ya, black shoes have to be worn too. For the guys, it's nicer and simpler, they will be wearing black long sleeve, look-a-like indian punjabee shirt and black pants. Around their necks, there will be a long scarf to be pinned onto the shirts.

After that, we will be splitting into our own blocks. I belong to Block B. Within our own block, we played some ice breaking games such as finding our group members' names in a crossword puzzle and playing the human interlocking chain. Felt really old in the group as mostly they were about 18 - 20 years old and I am like.... 2? year old. *Duh* My heart almost dropped out when I know there are VJC students in Block B. OMG!!! I hope they don't recognise me.

Kailing came for today's training. Felt happy she was there. Finally, I have some accompany here already. Yay!!! She really can catch up with the dance steps quite fast and me?? blah....
Like a pink shortie kuku hopping around haha... I can't remember the steps.

All of a sudden, I got a headache. Maybe I didn't drink coffee this morning before I left house. This is bad cos I think I got addicted to coffee again.

After the training, I went to Liang Court with Kailing today. Had a heart talk with her at the McDonalds. She felt cold cos she was drenched this morning when she rushed for the YCF training. And so to keep herself warm, she bought a cup of milo from Mac. Me? Don't want to talk about it liao... I ordered Mc Spicy Double Chicken burger meal and I finished it.

After the meal, went Meidi-Ya Supermarket with Kailing. Quite a special supermarket that sells products that cater to Japanese. The products are real exquisite and they cannot be found in any other supermarkets but they are expensive. Maybe next time, I will buy some snacks over there. The only downside is that it's a little bit too deserted down there.

First Day of Practicum at BMSS

Today was my first day of practicum. Quite excited and yet worried. I wondered how will the students behave in Bukit Merah Secondary School. According to my experience while I was a secondary School student, the students in Bukit Merah Secondary School were very rowdy and they behaved like gangsters. Being so petite, I wondered if I could really manage them.

Upon reaching the school, I was quite surprised to see that the cohort of students was very small. Just imagine that there was no Sec 4 students this year in the school!!! The students, to my surprise, were rather polite and mild. As for the staff over at Bukit Merah Sec, they were very friendly.

My SCM was Ms Chong. She is the HOD of English Department but she still sits in the main staff room. She is the discipline master there too. It was also her who scheduled my teaching periods at Bukit Merah secodary School. I have about 8 Music teaching periods and I have to teach 2 Express classes (Sec 1C and 1D) and 2 Normal Academic classes (Sec 1A and 1B).

Today, I went in to sit in Class 1B and 1D to observe how my two CTs, Mr Albert Low and Mrs Lim, teach. Mr Albert Low was my official CT. Not only he is a Music teacher, he was also a Geography teacher. He seemed like a very stressed person and he did not like to talk much. Felt quite hard to talk to him. At this point in time, I was quite worried how am I going to communicate to him regarding my practicum matters.

Another CT of mine was Mrs Lim. She looked like a tai tai, instead of a teacher. What surprise me even more was that she's a Chinese teacher!?! OMG, all along I thought she could be teaching other subjects except Chinese! This is because her command of English language was superb. :)

Oh ya. I met another trainee teacher called Siew Yan at BMSS. She's in her thirties and looked very slim. Teaching is her second career. Heard from her that she set up up a business before she came into teaching. But then, the business was also related to education field. She was extremely friendly and nice to talk to. Felt quite blessed to have such a friend there to look after me during my practicum.

Hope that my days in BMSS will be happy and smooth. :)

First time in Educators Group

This evening, I was at the Soka's Educators Group. Though this was my first time there, I felt it was really a wonderful experience with trainee teachers and other experienced teachers as well. I met Kah Kiat, Mei Ming, Tiew Ling, and of course, Linda, who recommended me here into the educators group.

I was quite surprised that I talked quite a lot in today's discussion. Maybe it's due to the anxiety and doubts I have regarding the coming practicum. I felt really welcomed by them and they are really warm teachers.

I felt more confident that I could pull through the practicum after the discussion. I hope I could have such kind of discussion in the future! Let me see how! :)

Happy Birthday!!!

Congratulations!!! Happy Birthday to me! Can't believe I'm turing 25 this year! I'm in MID-TWENTIES!!! OMG!!

What are my birthday wishes? Hmmm... let me see.. Firstly, wish that I can cope well with my career ahead, secondly, wish my family members and friends are healthy and lastly, hope that the kins of tsunami victims could brace themselves up and live stronger each day.

This afternoon, went to buy MULAN DVD with my boyfriend for the sake of finishing my assignment. Quite worried that I don't have anything to write for my lesson plan on the movie MULAN. The deadline is drawing near for the submission of this assignment and I hope that I can churn up something good in time.

Worries aside, my boyfriend celebrated my 25th birthday with me by treating me to Phinx Restaurant. Didn't know there's such a 24hr restaurant at Liang Seah Street (opp. Bugis Junction)which serves mostly western food (I think). I ordered fish and chips and he ordered the same with the only difference that the fish was battered with beer. The serving was quite large and quite tasty. On top of the main course, we ordered buffalo wings as appetizers.

After that meal, we went to Bugis Junction to shop. Only then, my boyfriend gave me a present and it was a bottle of perfume (MoonFlower) from body shop. I felt so remorsed that I didn't get him any valentine's present. So... I shopped for the valentine's gift with him haha...!! You know what I got for him? I got a bottle of perfume from the Body shop too!!! haha

Went home for dinner. My parents cooked a sumptuous dinner for me to celebrate my birthday. It's Steamboat with tomyam base. Yummy!! After dinner, it's cutting cake time!!! Feel so old to cut a cake and weird to sing a birthday song. The birthday cake (coffee flavour) was a gift from my sis. It's from Polar cakes and puffs.

Chinese New Year's Eve

Early in the morning, I still have to report to school to see our classmates microteach even though it's Chinese New Year's Eve... *poof* Lazy mood aside, my music classmates and I were surprised to see a leaf insect near our Choral room's door! This is the first time I saw a leaf insect. The insect was very beautiful and it really looked like a leaf! I wondered why it chose to 'camouflage' there.

In the evening, back home to have our reunion dinner. As usual, it's steamboat again with lots of balls... fishballs, cuttlefish balls, vegetable balls, prawn balls, meat balls.... etc. haha Of course, not to forget about the abalone and the prawns.. tsk tsk..

While watching the new year countdown show, my mom, my sis and I kept ourselves busy with our nails. Yes.. painting our nails. Wasted lots of alcohol due to lousy skills of painting nails.

What is my new year resolution at this moment? -- hope to get lots of angbaos before I get older.

A Birthday Present

Today is Tuesday, 4 days before my birthday. I was delighted to receive an early present from my friend, Sarah. Got a sweet note from her and guess what... just as what I always wanted to buy... a key pouch! It's quite a special key pouch with a strawberry on top and I'm using it now. :)

In the evening, went out with my boyfriend to have dinner at the Old People's Park hawker centre. I ordered mixed vegetable rice and my boyfriend ordered the famous yong tau foo. Surprising, our stomachs could fill another plate of fried omelette. This fried omelette is the best, the best that I've ever eaten!!! Too bad, in about a month's time, that this hawker centre is going to close down for renovation. :( Never have mind that it looks old. I believed that so long that it serves good food, customers would still come and savour the good food.

Chinatown CNY Bazaar

Today was really a hot sunny day!!! Phew..
Gone to the Chinatown CNY Bazaar today and I haven't been sweating so much... The scorching sun really made me thirsty...(bought a sea coconut to quench my thirst)

There was indeed a crowd. Every street and corner was packed with sea of people. No doubt that the atmosphere was filled with CNY celebration. There seems to be more stalls being set up this year than last year. But still... same old things are being sold.. haha

Bought nothing much, just 3 new cushion covers for CNY.

These are the pictures snapped along the streets of Chinatown.

Steamboat with Japanese and Indonesian

In the afternoon at about 3p.m, my bf and I was at the Carrefour@P.S. We were shopping for some food for the steamboat tonight. Bought a packet of crab meat, a few bottles of alcoholic drinks for the guests and tortilla chips with salsa sauce for myself . We didn't buy much stuff cos we found out that bf's dad had bought most of the ingredients already.

Headed to Tampines to meet an Indonesian friend, Lenny. She's very friendly and chatty. :) She's really a nice person to talk to and I'm very impressed with her command of English. Oh ya.. not to forget another Indonesian friend (ops,..forgotten his name but he's friend of Lenny). He's a bit shy but can see that he's a very sincere and honest person. We chatted at a coffee shop for a while before we set off to SengKang (Bf's place).

SengKang was really far.... as usual, I grumbled about the long journy along the way on the bus, LRT... Only Lenny was with us and the long journey gave me the opportunity to get to know her better.

Finally, reached Sengkang MRT station and met two Japanese friends, Yosuke and Takako. 5 of us headed off to my bf's place happily. Takako is sweet and cute and I know something about her... She likes to laugh. :) She definitely has the gentleness of a typical Japanese lady.

We reached bf's house at about 630pm. Only after 15 mins, another Japanese cool guy, Kenichi, arrived. He was very tired cos he hasn't been sleeping for the last 25 hrs. He has grown darker ever since I last saw him.

Yeh... We started the steamboat and there's a lot of food/ingredient. It's "Ooishi" and "Bagus"!!!

Took a couple of photos after the steamboat and ice-cream and here is one of them:

At about 11pm, we left bf's house in a Taxi.

Hope that Lenny will take care of herself in her new student exchange programme here in NUS. and hope that Yosuke will finish his Master with flying colours and Takako will not miss her home at Japan too much.. Also wish that Kenichi had a good night sleep.

60 Months

Early in the afternoon, I went to get my hair cut at a salon near my house. After a long wait for my turn, I got my hair cut short till my jawline and the hairstyle is somewhat like a bob.

With my new haircut, I met my boyfriend at Orchard MRT station. To celebrate our 5th year of dating with each other, we decided to have our early dinner at Coffee Club at Takashimaya.

The dinner was sumptuous. There were Garlic Prawn Pasta, Pork Ribs with Wedges, Seafood Pilaf and Triple Choc with Vanilla Ice Cream for dessert. The Pork ribs was quite a big portion and the wedges were crispy and fleshy. The prawns were crunchy and fresh. Yummy.... Both of us had an enjoyable dinner.

Just before we foot the bill, my boyfriend gave me a surprise. He handed out a pink wrapped present from his bag. After a few wrong guesses, I unwrapped the present eagarly and to my delight, it was the necklace that I saw at Bugis Junction!

I was happy but at the same time felt remorseful that I didn't get anything for him. I'll get a present for him on Valentine's Day but what to get for him?!?! Headache....

School Reopens

School reopens today after the holidays. As usual, it bounds to rain during the first day of school. Woke up early at about 6.45a.m. Felt sleepy and cold the moment I got out of bed.

Had an IT lesson today at about 8.30a.m. The tutor is very friendly and seems like a nice person. We were briefed that we will be writing our reflections of what we have learnt during each week on our blog page. Sounds interesting and unique, isn't it?

The blackboard and portal is still down..... :( This means that I won't be able to check my timetable again and also won't be able to know when and where my tutorials are. Was worried until an hour ago when I managed to get some little clues to where and when to attend my tutorials.

Sinful Lunch and dinner

At about 1.30pm, I went to Tiong Bahru Plaza with my mom and sis and we saw Fann Wong and Kym Ng standing on a makeshift stage at the Central Concourse near UOB. As the ambassadors of New Moon Abolone, they were there to attend the New Moon & Mili Giveaway. Both stars also played a part in donating cash to Ren Ci Hospital by catching pieces of golden wrappers. For every piece of golden wrapper caught, $1000 cash would be donated. Fann's and Kym's efforts contributed $20,000 altogether.

In the mid-afternoon, I went to Seoul Garden@Bugis to have lunch and dinner with my bf. Although we felt quite sinful after eating, it was fun barbequing the meat and cooking the tom yam soup.

After the meal, went to Tiong Bahru Plaza to watch Kungfu Hustle, starring Stephen Chow. The show failed to meet my expectations. To my disappointment, it was not very funny and I only laughed a little at certain scenes. Found the show was rather crappy and the fighting scenes were copied from Matrix. Regretted watching the show.

Had a little supper after the show at Tiong Bahru Market. My bf and I decided to try the fried oyster found in a new stall. It was quite delicious and the oyster were juicy. My bf felt guilty of eating so much sinful food, he ordered a cup of chinese tea so that we can wash away all the fats. I know it's just a lame excuse *haha*...
Will try not to eat so much for this week.
